Boot Camp

Pitching Masterclass

11 Mar 2008 - 18:00
11 Mar 2008 - 20:30

Time: 6.00 for 6.30pm
Venue: Judge Business School

More important than having a great idea is figuring out how to sell it! Entrepreneurship may be instinctive, but presenting to venture capitalists benefits from rehearsal in the same way as a singer with raw talent still needs to be trained. We invite you to come and pitch your idea, receive feedback and learn from other pitches.

The masterclass will be led by Andrea Blakesley. Andrea founded Mudhut in late 2005 with the aim of advising individuals and organisations on complex verbal communication. Prior to founding Mudhut, Andrea spent three years as a Director of the Great Eastern Investment Forum, the leading UK business angel network based in Cambridge. Responsible for the selection of early stage companies and recruitment of investors, Andrea also led the GEIF investment readiness programme, coaching over 100 companies on their investment presentations to private investors. Andrea has experience in consulting companies from a wide range of sectors including biotechnology, telecoms, finance, internet, leisure, engineering and the arts.

£1k Boot Camp Provides Advice and Inspiration

On 23 November 2006, CUE held the £1k Boot camp to provide practical advice on writing winning summaries for the £1k Business Ideas Competition. Over 150 people packed the lecture theatre to hear from distinguished guest speakers including James Hay, co-founder of previous winner Splashpower, and Walter Herriot OBE, Managing Director of the St John's Innovation Centre. A lively networking session followed, helping potential entrants to find teams.

CUE has made available via its web site both a video comprising highlights of the £1k Boot Camp and a short description of the structure and content of an executive summary. The deadline for entering the £1k Business Ideas Competition is midnight on 11 December 2006.
