Cam-Cap

Recent work at the University of Coventry has led to the discovery of a new supercapacitive material capable of storing 10 times more electrical energy than competing materials. Consequently, the patent-protected Cam-Cap supercapacitor is able to combine the large energy storage capacity of batteries with the rapid power delivery capabilities of capacitors to meet new customer needs that cannot be satisfied using other existing energy storage materials. The advantages of the Cam-Cap supercapacitors are particularly apparent in the rapidly expanding high performance energy storage markets associated with environmentally friendly alternatives in the transport and power generation industries.

Direct Energy

Thermophotovoltaics (TPV) is a new technology that promises an environmental friendly way of transforming heat into electic energy using natural gas or biomass. Special interest has been given lately to the great commercial potentials that low power portable TPV generators appear to have. Nevertheless in Europe a gap exists between this new technology and its commercial development. This business plan aims to fill this gap. We intend to provide energy efficienty in locations for people and organisation which are difficult to access or do not have a steady source of energy through an environmentally friendly technology.

EnvAl

EnvAls novel technology is capable of recycling 100% of the waste obtained from post consumer drink cartons (i.e. Tetra Paks). The process recovers clean aluminium that can be sold to the aluminium industry and generates oils and gases suitable for heat or electricity production. EnvAl will contribute to the sustainable development of society by generating profit and by reducing the amount of materials that are currently being landfilled. EnvAl is seeking the partnership of an early stage investor who will provide financial backing to finish building the first demonstration equipment, and then remain with the company to realise its full potential.

Frontiers

Frontiers closes the skills gap between the graduate and the employer and between school students and universities. There is discrepancy between the skills offered by applicants and those required of them. A lack of transferable skills, such as leadership, team working and communication, leaves people with a fixed skills set, unable to adapt to changing needs and demands. Frontiers has developed a unique, innovative and profitable method to bridge this skills gap. Frontiers presentations and workshops will engage with delegates in a fun and experiential way and are tailored to the individuals needs.

Leapfrog Ventures

According to the World Tourism Organisation, 698 million people travelled to a foreign country in 2000, spending more than US$478 billion. Yet out of each US$100 spent on vacation tours by a tourist from a developed country, only US$5 actually stays in a developing country destinations economy. At Leapfrog Ventures we have developed an innovative solution to this problem which widens the divide between rich and poor.

Medicines For Humanity

One-third of the world's population does not have access to essential medicines. Pharmaceutical companies have reputational and financial incentives to donate medicines. However, the medical donations process is not meeting its potential. The key problem is a lack of accurate and comprehensive information on unmet medical needs and sources of donations. The MedMap database will provide this, thereby facilitating communication between donors, recipients, and donation channels, and raising public awareness of good medical donations. By consolidating information crucial to all stakeholders, Medicines for Humanity will enable the distribution of the right medicines to the right people at the right time.

Sayehfa

Each August piles of Mangos rot in the hot, Senegalese sun as women stuggle to sell them from the sides of motoways. Then, pediatic intake of vitamin A nosedives. But Seyehfa's solar drying system can organically preserve the leftover harvest for both domestic consumption and exploding European demand. Recycled from bottles and bags, the system sets a precedent for how truly appropriate, high quality products can be produced in Senegal, for Senegal, without further deforestation. Using for-profit tactics for non-profit reasons, the goal isn't merely to sell mango dryiers - its to produce dried mango sellers.

Protection of our assets will be mediated through our proprietary databank of gene expression profiles and will be reinforced by future patents on our gene combinations and algorithms. As a platform technology our solution is easily transferable to a range of other markets, including personal care.

The London Air Pollution Project

Independent research demonstrates that high levels of air pollutants in urban UK are detrimental to people's health, with a government estimate of health costs associated with polluion standing at 1.3 billion per year and rising. There exists an opportunity to develop an inexpensive, single use, disposable, personal health mask for those who need it most - the elderly, commuters, health conscious and cyclists. The LAPP intends to commercialise and market such a product and provide a public health benefit. The organisation is a not-for-profit supported by government (local and regional) and social-orientation institutions.

Tyrex

In the UK, 37million tyres need to be disposed each year and cannot be landfilled from 2006. Garages pay 1/tyre to have tyres collected from them and disposed. Tyre collectors stack whole tyres in their trucks. Our mobile processing solution would have 30% lower collection costs than our competitors. We could charge garages less to collect and redistribute materials for recycling. Given an investment of 200,000 we estimate to have a 12% market share with 3.6 million annual profit, after 5 years (21 months for break even).

You-Can

You-Can is a web-based portal to facilitate an efficient and effective donation process, which maximizes the benefits for both donors and recipients. It is an interface that permits interaction between donors allowing collaboration as a means to achieve a specific goal. These goals are monetary targets which, once achieved, fund specific social schemes run by small, local charities in developing countries. The web service allows for clear and immediate visualisation of progression towards pre-set goals so that users can gain an immediate view as to the effectiveness of their donation. You-Can therefore overcomes these charities' current inability to secure much needed funding from abroad whilst enhancing the 'donation-giving experience'.
