FertilityGuide

Company Description

FertilityGuide is a patent-pending non-hormonal, minimally invasive, passive medical device that allows women to accurately identify ovulation cycles.  FertilityGuide can be used as a family planning device to assist conception as well as to provide ethical (and church-endorsed) family planning guidance.  Competing methods and products (body basal thermometry, urinal hormone testing, calendar counting) are either highly inaccurate, extremely inconvenient, or both.  FertilityGuide will reduce the failure rates of Fertility Awareness family planning methods from ~25% per year to ~1% per year.  Within this heavily underserved market FertilityGuide expects to achieve a turnover of US£15m by year 6.

e-lation

Company Description

Low cost, accurate translation of text via the internet is an unsolved problem. Professional translation costs at least US$50 per page, and present computer tranlsation produces poor output with loss of context and meaning. We present a solution based around minimum wage monolingual workers training an adaptive automatic translation algorithm to maintain context and meaning, and provide translations of native speaker quality. Although inappropriate for legal documents, a vast array of business, news and personal material can be targeted. A price-quality trade-off is provided, and the completely automated translation engine itself will quickly become the best in the market.

Cambridge Visual Concepts

Company Description

In biology labs and classrooms aroudn the world, teaching aids such as skeletal and gastronintestinal models are a familiar sight. What is conspicuously absent is a realistic and interactive three-dimensional model of our fundamental building block - the cell. The result? A disconnect between theory and reality. We offer a product that can requite this conceptual blind-spot, which has two interdependent components: a realistic gel-based cell model with removable cell parts, and 3D modelling and animation software. User interaction with the physical model will activate animation, images and related information on an analagous 3D virtual cell.

CamStent

Company Description

Each day, thousands of people suffer from heart attack scaused by underlying coronary artery disease. The condition can be condition can be corrected by angioplasty, followed by wire-mesh stent to hold the artery open, but protein deposition can occlude the stent. Drug-eluting stents attack the deposits, but do not directly address the underlying attachment process.

We propose to create a novel 'non-stick stent, coated with a non-toxic susbstance that is both hydro- and oleo-phobic. We require £1.5m seed funding to reach Phase 1 clinical trial where we can partner with a device manufacturer to capture 15% of this US$15bn market within five years.
