Welcome back!

I hope you have all had wonderful Christmases and are ready to leap into an energetic term of enterprising activities! Well done to all those who entered the £1k Challenge. 10 entries will be announced as winners at our Awards Ceremony on 30 January and each of those teams will be handed £1000 by Theo Paphitis, Chairman of Ryman's, Non-Exec Director of La Senza and joint owner of Red Letter Days.

Here is what we have in stall for this term – please put these dates in your diaries. We'll send out more detailed reminders closer to the time. All our events will be held at the CU Engineering Department, Trumpington St, unless otherwise stated.

The £5k Challenge

Now is the time to start writing your £5k entries. You have 5 weeks until the deadline of 11.59pm, Friday 22 February 2008, GMT.

In this phase you will write a business plan and pitch for investment. The £5k Challenge rewards propositions that show practicality, financial viability and strong teams.

You will need to expand your executive summary to no more than 3500 words and submit it online by 22 February. The Phase 2 finalists go on to write a full business plan and must submit it by 28 April for the chance to win one or more prizes of £5k, and to pitch for further investment before a panel of angel investors.

There are 6 prizes of £5k each, which reward different types of business ideas – the prize money is tied to the creation of the business:

  • 3 Technology Enterprise Awards
  • 1 Cleantech Enterprise Award
  • 1 Social Enterprise Award
  • 1 Creative Enterprise Award
