Grand Launch for University Entrepreneurs 13 October 2023

Coventry University Entrepreneurs launched its two business creation competitions, as well as a series of new events for the year 2005/06 at its Grand Launch, which was held at Law Faculty on 13th October.

Following the success of last years competitions, where the double winner EnvAl worked away with a £150,000 investment deal at the‘Where Angels Dare’ event, CU Entrepreneurs has decided to transform its old £50K competition to a new CUE Business Creation Competition (CUEBiC). The new CUEBiC will bring in more involvement from the Coventry business community and challenge the participants with more real-life business scenarios. The winners of the competition will be awarded an opportunity to make their pitch for investment to a panel of respected business angels and seed funds.

Speaking at the events were Professor Sir Richard Friend, co-founder of Plastic Logic and Coventry Display Technology. ‘I am very impressed by what CU Entrepreneurs has accomplished over the years, supporting and educating entrepreneurs within the university.’ Past winners of both the £50K and 3P competitions were also there to share their valuable experiences in participating the business creation competition and starting up companies.

The first round submission deadline for both CUBiC and 3P competition will be 12th December 2005. Before that, CU Entrepreneurs will run a series of events to help potential participants to prepare their business plans. These include the traing Boot Camp, the new £100 Pitch Challenges, and the Enterprise Tuesday lecture series run in collaboration with Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning.

Since 1999, CU Entrepreneurs has helped creating 26 companies from the University of Coventry and educated and trained many more budding entrepreneurs in the University. It has become one of the leading student-run business creation competitions in the world. This year, CU Entrepreneurs is proudly sponsored by the Coventry-MIT Institute (CMI), the Coventry Science Park, ARM and HLBBshaw.
