Footprint Cafes

“Footprint Cafes is a grass roots movement that is building a chain of sustainable social enterprises that break down barriers to education, social mobility and community sustainability and deliver impacting change to local communities one amazing café at a time”

Building on the sustainable success over the past three years of the New Leaf Book Café in Siem Riep, Cambodia (http://newleafeatery.com/) we have now launched Footprint Cafes (http://footprintcafes.org/).

We are now in the process of establishing the 1st of 3 additional “Enterprise Cafés” for which I have provided up to $175,000 funding in the cultural city of Battambang, Cambodia and Georgie and team are on the ground preparing for what we hope will be a launch this summer.

A reminder of the purpose of this initiative is summarised in the attached document and the below video clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWhtFkUdw_0

One of the key components of each Café is the supply of second hand books from “ethical travellers” you so I write to ask whether you will participate in a drive to collect 8,000 adult fiction books plus any children’s books.

Details of the drive are below including contract details for Georgie and team to arrange collection from Coventry or London.

When: 1st June – 30th June 2016

Why: Good holiday reads are a rare commodity in Cambodia but tourists are plentiful. Footprint Cafes will sell your books in our cafes to tourists in order to raise money to fund educational and social enterprise grants for Cambodia’s young population.

How you can help: Become a Footprint champion, ask your work place, college or institution to host a book drive by encouraging employees and students to donate and hosting a book collection point. We can send you an information pack with posters and further information about Footprint Cafes to advertise the drive. We will collect the books from your work place, college or institution after 30th June.

Goal: By the end of June we aim to send 8,000 adult fiction books boxed and on their way to Cambodia. Your donations will help raise an estimated $40,000 for educational and enterprise grants in the local community. $40,000 could pay the salaries of over 60 teachers for a year, build a new school or send hundreds of students to university.
